Avalanche’s Gabe Landeskog, once a teenaged captain, salutes Oilers’ Connor McDavid on his record-breaking “C”

Avalanche winger Gabe Landeskog no longer holds the distinction of being the youngest captain in NHL history.

He doesn’t mind.

The Edmonton Oilers earlier this week named center Connor McDavid — who was 19 years and 266 days old at the time — their captain, and he was 20 days younger than Landeskog was when was selected to wear the “C” for Colorado in September 2012. At the time, Landeskog, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 draft, was coming off winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year.
