Avalanche’s Cale Makar on Wednesday was named one of the three finalists for the 2020-21 James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded “to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.”
Makar, 22, is one of the three top vote-getters along with Rangers’ Adam Fox and Lightning’s Victor Hedman. The ballots were submitted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
In his second full season with Colorado, he totaled 44 points (eight goals and 36 assists) in 44 games. His 1.00 points-per-game average led all defensemen and is the first Avs player to accomplish the feat since the franchise moved to Denver in 1995.
