Harvard-educated Alex Kerfoot can apply the math. The second-year Avalanche forward realizes he could become a better player by sacrificing what was a league-leading 23.4 shooting percentage last season as a rookie.
Kerfoot, who graduated from Harvard with an economics degree in the spring of 2017, finished fourth on the Avs in goals (19) last season but was 14th in shots (81). He tied Vegas Golden Knights forward William Karlsson (43 goals on 184 shots) with the NHL’s highest shooting percentage (minimum 40 games-played).
“There’s no doubt, I should be shooting more,” Kerfoot said Monday after his final training-camp session at Family Sports Center.
