DENVER — Avalanche right winger and NHL scoring leader Mikko Rantanen saw his 14-game points streak snapped in Monday's 4-1 loss to the visiting New York Islanders at the Pepsi Center.
Rantanen and the high-scoring Avs failed to do their usual offensive damage, scoring one power-play goal but failing to capitalize on their final four opportunities with the man-advantage. New York was 2-for-4 on the power play and got 30 saves from goalie Thomas Greiss, who outplayed Colorado's Semyon Varlamov (17 saves).
Varlamov was pulled late in the third period, and Valtteri Flippula scored an empty-net goal with 2:25 remaining.
