As the NHL draft’s second day opened Saturday morning in Buffalo, the Avalanche claimed Notre Dame-bound left wing Cameron Morrison with the No. 40 overall choice in the second round and then took Prince George Cougars defenseman Josh Anderson at No. 71 in the third round.
Morrison, from Aurora, Ontario, had 34 goals and 66 points for the United States Hockey League’s Youngstown Phantoms last season.
With the second day’s selections proceeding in rapid-fire fashion, Morrison came out of the First Niagara Center stands, went to the Avalanche table on the floor, donned an Avalanche jersey and hat and met with the Colorado brass before being interviewed on the NHL Network.
