ELMONT, N.Y. — It’s become a pattern now: The Colorado Avalanche looks like the better team for the better part of the first 40 minutes and then the final period is a problem.
Colorado had all kinds of chances Tuesday night at UBS Arena, but the New York Islanders proved more clinical with their finishing in the third and defeated the Avs, 5-2.
It was the fourth loss in five games for the Avs and fifth defeat in seven (2-4-1). There was obviously a huge, franchise-altering change in the middle of this stretch, but Colorado now has 30 games left in the season.
