The Colorado Avalanche have signed top defensive prospect Justin Barron to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday morning. Barron was the teams 25th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Barron, 19, captained the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this past season, recording 31 points, (8G/23A) in 33 games. Prior to this past season, Barron appeared alongside notable Avalanche top prospect Alex Newhook in the 2021 World Junior Championship for Team Canada, where he helped the team bring home a silver medal, nothing two assists in seven contests.
