PHILADELPHIA — Three power-play goals and a shorthanded tally were required for the Avalanche to pull out a victory in its second consecutive 10-goal-plus shootout Monday night.
Colorado, which leads the NHL in scoring at 4.00 goals per game, reached its average in the first period against the struggling Philadelphia Flyers, who fired head coach Alain Vigneault before the morning skate at Wells Fargo Center. But the offensively explosive Avs couldn’t pull away with rookie goalie Justus Annunen in net until midway through the third period.
Colorado, which had seven players score, ultimately skated off a 7-5 winner to improve to 2-1-1 in its five-game road trip.
