The Avalanche announced it has re-signed left wing and team captain Gabe Landeskog to an eight-year, $56 million contract late Tuesday night.
The Avs’ 10th-year player and nine-year captain was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at 10 p.m. MT. The new deal came through around 9:38 p.m.
If Landeskog became a free agent, the maximum term for his next contract would have been seven years.
Landeskog, 28, is now the Avalanche’s third highest-paid player with a $7 million annual cap hit. Right winger Mikko Rantanen has a $9.25 million cap hit and defenseman Cale Makar is now making $9 million beginning next season.
