Avalanche prospect Shane Bowers on two-year plan with Boston University

Boston University center Shane Bowers, following his first day of development camp with the Avalanche on Friday, revealed a plan that would make him a professional before his 21st birthday. Ideally, the jump from college to the pros would immediately take him to the NHL, and he would call Denver home.

Based on the 17 goals he scored as a Terriers’ true freshman last season — he was one of the NCAA’s youngest players — Bowers’ goal of turning pro after his sophomore season at BU holds merit. Bowers, 18, was acquired Nov. 5 from Ottawa in the three-team trade that sent disgruntled Avalanche forward Matt Duchene to Ottawa.
