The Avalanche placed defenseman Duncan Siemens on waivers Friday in a move designed to part ways with the 2011 first-round draft pick.
Siemens, 24, played just four NHL games in four seasons since signing an entry-level contract in 2013. He practiced with the Avs on Friday and coach Jared Bednar said he might remain with the team if he is not claimed during the 24-hour waiver window.
“That moves gives us a little flexibility,” Bednar said.
Siemens, the 11th overall pick of his draft class, likely will be reassigned to Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, if he is not claimed.
