BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Joe Sakic attended the Avalanche-Rangers game Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, and I wonder if he caught himself thinking of what might have happened if Colorado hadn’t matched the three-year, $21 million offer sheet he signed with that New York team in the summer of 1997.
That’s not implying he would be regretful, considering he finished off a Hall of Fame career with the Avalanche and was on a Colorado Stanley Cup champion for the second time in 2001, setting the stage for him moving into the front office and taking over as GM in May 2013.
