BUFFALO, N.Y. – At this point in the season, an ugly win will do just fine for an Avalanche team looking to stay afloat in the playoff race.
The Avalanche gave up two short-handed goals and nearly blew a three-goal lead in the third period, but escaped Buffalo by downing the lowly Sabres 5-4 on Sunday night at KeyBank Center.
Colin Wilson had a goal and an assist while five different Avs scored in a sloppy game that featured both teams playing the night after a road game without their top scorers.
The turning point was an Avalanche third-period power play, which up to that point in the game had provided the Sabres with their best scoring chances.
