J.T. Compher once again spent the offseason training in Chicago with renowned performance coach Ian Mack of Tomahawk Science.
But this time around, the Avalanche forward put as much work in mentally as he did physically.
The reason: Compher wanted to understand why he had just 10 goals and 18 points in 48 games last season, and how to mentally prevent another subpar year from happening again.
“I wasn’t happy with how my season went last year. There were a lot of tough conversations I’ve had with myself over the summer, and getting back to being an aggressive, tenacious player that’s given me success in my career,” Compher said after Thursday’s morning skate at Ball Arena, before the Avs defeated the Minnesota Wild 6-3 in Colorado preseason home opener.
