Avalanche first-round draft pick Martin Kaut likely headed to Colorado Eagles

The Avalanche introduced six of its eight 2018 draft picks Thursday and at least one of them has an excellent chance to play in Colorado next season.

Loveland, Colo., that is.

Czech Republic forward Martin Kaut, the Avs’ first-round pick (16th overall) last Friday in Dallas, is likely to begin his North American career with the Colorado Eagles — the Avs’ new American Hockey League affiliate in Loveland.

Kaut, 18, could become one of the AHL’s youngest players, but he also could return to his Czech Republic professional league or join major-junior’s Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League.
