Evander Kane scored three goals in the second period as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Avalanche 6-3 on Friday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
The loss was Colorado’s third consecutive after clinching the Central Division title and Western Conference’s No. 1 playoff seed last week.
The Avs (55-17-6), who have four remaining regular-season games, finished 2-1-0 against the Oilers, with both wins coming beyond regulation. Colorado, which has now lost three straight games for the first time since October, remained two points behind the Eastern Conference-leading Florida Panthers in the President’s Trophy race. The Panthers have a game in hand.
