Avalanche defenseman Bo Byram steps up in Sam Girard’s injury absence: “I loved his game”

The sky-high expectations for Avalanche defenseman Bo Byram are coming to fruition in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Byram, the fourth-overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft, has stepped into a larger role for Colorado with the injury absence of defenseman Sam Girard (broken sternum). Byram took full advantage in a Game 4 victory at the Blues Monday night, with the 20-year-old British Columbia native quarterbacking the Avalanche’s second power-play unit in place of Girard.

Byram finished with a playoff career-high two assists, including a beautiful cross-ice helper on the second goal of forward Nazem Kadri’s hat trick.
