Avalanche cuts nine, reduces roster to 30; recovering Rantanen skates on his own as Duchene arrival imminent

Shortly before Sunday’s practice, the Avalanche announced it has assigned nine players to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, leaving the Colorado training camp/exhibition season roster at 30.

The nine unsurprising cuts: forwards Troy Bourque, Turner Elson, A.J. Greer, Samuel Henly, Jim O’Brien and Joe Whitney; defenseman Ryan Stanton; and goaltenders Jeremy Smith and Spencer Martin.

That left the current Colorado roster:

Goaltenders (2): Semyon Varlamov, Calvin Pickard.

Forwards (18): John Mitchell, Joe Colborne, Matt Duchene, Jarome Iginla, Blake Comeau, Mike Sislo, Ben Smith, Rene Bourque, Mikhail Grigorenko, Trent Vogelhuber, Andreas Martinsen, Nathan MacKinnon, Carl Soderberg, J.
