Avalanche continues line shifting to break slump at halfway point of NHL season

Jared Bednar’s tinkering continues as an Avalanche slump has snowballed.

Colorado’s coach confirmed more line changes following morning skate Thursday with the team 1-4-1 over its last six games, and the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues visiting the Pepsi Center tonight.

The Avs’ top line — Gabe Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Joonas Donskoi — will be the team’s only familiar forward combination with the second, third and fourth units all getting a makeover at the midway point of the NHL season.

Here are the projected forward changes entering Thursday night:

Fourth: Tyson Jost, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Andre Burakovsky

“You’re hoping it works, but the reason you’re mixing it up in the first place is because it hasn’t been working to the level that we would like it to,” Bednar said.
