NEW YORK — The positive was that in a building that promotes and monetizes its history, Nathan MacKinnon authored a bit of his own. The negative was that against a team in flux, the Avalanche were decidedly unimpressive.
MacKinnon became the first player in Quebec/Colorado franchise history to score at least one goal in the first six games of a season in the Avalanche’s 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Avalanche fell to 3-1-2.
MacKinnon broke the record he held with Mats Sundin, who scored in the first five games of the 1992-93 Quebec Nordiques season.
