When former Colorado Avalanche Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Patrick Roy walked away from the organization last week, it left the organization in a unique position not frequently seen in the NHL. The Avalanche, just 40 days out from the start of training camp, found themselves without a person to lead them into the upcoming season.
Now, several days after the fact, the team has had some time to put together their list of potential candidates and begin making phone calls. General Manager Joe Sakic is facing a daunting task in putting together a finalized coaching staff and facing the unique obstacle of not having a substantial amount of time to assemble the men who will be tasked with getting the most out of an enigmatic but talented roster.
