PITTSBURGH — First-year Avalanche coach Jared Bednar takes a personal 16-game winning streak into Monday’s game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Bednar, who ended last season on a nine-game winning streak as coach of the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, guided the Avs to a 6-0 preseason and a victory on opening night Saturday over the visiting Dallas Stars.
So when’s the last time Bednar lost a hockey game? It was Game 5 of AHL’s Central Division Final on May 14 — a 6-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins in Cleveland.
