Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon will miss two to four weeks with an upper body injury, the team announced Thursday.
“It’s not a great feeling when you lose a guy like that because of what he means to our team, but I’m excited for the opportunity it presents other guys,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said in a statement. “We need other guys to step up.”
MacKinnon, Colorado’s all-star center and the team’s leader in goals, assists and total points, was injured in the second period Tuesday after a collision in the corner with Vancouver defensemen Alexander Edler.
