An hour before the NHL trade deadline on Monday, the Avalanche announced it acquired forward Artturi Lehkonen from Montreal for defenseman prospect Justin Barron and a 2024 second-round pick. Shortly thereafter, Colorado reportedly added veteran forward Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks for a fifth-round draft pick in 2024.
Lehkonen, 26, is a pending restricted free agent with a $2.3 million cap hit. Barron, 20, was Colorado’s 2020 first-round draft pick (25th overall) and the club’s top prospect.
Lehkonen was Montreal’s third-leading scorer with 29 points (13 goals) in 58 games. Barron played in 43 games for the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, with five goals and 20 points.
