A.J. Greer leaves Boston University to play in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Avalanche 2015 second-round draftee A.J. Greer — the fourth return piece in the Ryan O'Reilly trade to Buffalo last summer — has left Boston University to play for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the NHL team confirmed Saturday.

Rouyn-Noranda leads the QMJHL with a 27-4-3-1 record (58 points).

Greer, a 19-year-old forward, was a struggling sophomore at BU, producing just five points (one goal) in 18 games. As a freshman before being selected by Colorado with the 39th pick in June, Greer had just seven points (three goals) in 37 games.

"He decided he wanted to move," Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said of Greer.
