Air Force Academy investigating death of civilian near north gate after Avalanche game at Falcon Stadium

Air Force officials are investigating the death of a man near the north gate of the U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday night after the NHL Stadium Series hockey game between the Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings, military officials said Sunday.

The man wasn’t affiliated with the academy or the Department of Defense, officials said, declining to reveal his identity.

He was one of the more than 43,000 hockey fans visiting the academy for the event in Falcon Stadium, according to a statement that academy officials issued Sunday. He died as academy officials were routing traffic off base as the result of “a tragic incident,” according to the statement.
