The Denver Pioneers were one of a handful of teams fortunate and successful enough to not have to worry about the effect of a wild week of conference tournament upsets on their NCAA tournament hopes. The Pioneers controlled their own destiny by winning the NCHC tournament and were rewarded with the #2 seed in the Midwest region, announced Sunday afternoon.
It appears as if the Pioneers were regarded by the selection committee as the 5th best team in the field, as the Midwest region is headed by Ohio State, the #4 overall seed in the tournament.
