Ugh, this wasn’t a particularly fun game. This probably won’t be a long recap.
First, Mike Clevinger is an excellent 4th pitcher (a true luxury in that role) and a good 3rd starter; in a perfect world he continues to evolve into a good 2nd starter. This is not meant to be complaining about him in any way. Stat-wise, he wasn’t even horrible tonight, with 4 ER in 6.0 IP. It has to be said, however, that the Mariners were absolutely not fooled by the young pitcher.
Clevinger was great in his start against the Orioles, but he was able to get the CGSO because the Orioles were helping him to be efficient by swinging early in the count.
