What will it take to protect Progressive Field grass during Billy Joel's concert?

(Chuck Crow, The Plain Dealer)

CLEVELAND, Ohio - While the Billy Joel concert at Progressive Field is six months away, Indians officials already are planning several key measures to preserve the baseball field.

"We will be ready and prepared as much as possible," said Jim Folk, vice president of ballpark operations.

Protection of grass and its root systems is paramount for any Major League Baseball team. Groundskeepers strive for consistency of a level field with proper drainage. The last thing a team - especially one expected to contend for postseason - needs is a series of divots making the outfield look like a bunch of hackers had traipsed through a public golf course.
