CHICAGO, Illinois -- The man singing the National Anthem before game 5 of the World Series in Chicago Saturday night is well known in the Windy City. He's sung the Anthem before hundreds of baseball games, according to NPR.
Wayne Messmer is a Chicago staple, having also performed the anthem for the Bulls, Blackhawks and Bears.
A jazz singer, Messmer has released several albums, but is most known for singing before to sporting events, a task he's performed for more than three decades.
By NPR's count, he's sung the patriotic tune thousands of times.
