CHICAGO -- Veteran left-hander Bruce Chen, who was designated for assignment by the Indians on Saturday, announced his retirement on Twitter Monday night. The move was confirmed by the Indians.
"Today I would like to announce my retirement," Chen wrote on his verified account @ChenMusic. "For the last 22yrs I have been doing what I love for a living. I feel blessed and fortunate."
Chen, 37, made two starts with the Indians this season, going 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA. He pitched a total of 6 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs on 17 hits.
