Utility man Michael Martinez shows Cleveland Indians importance of versatility

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Indians opened this season with one utility player and he's turned into an everyday player without a position. By this time you all know Jose Ramirez.

So to replace Ramirez, who is getting everyday at-bats in the wake of Michael Brantley's sore right shoulder, the Indians have used switch-hitter Michael Martinez to fill the utility role.

"What's impressed us so much is his defense has been so good," said manager Terry Francona. "He's a really good center fielder. He's a really good right fielder. I think he's a pretty good left fielder, but he says he's the least comfortable there so we've tried not to put him out there as much.
