Mark Shapiro is taking someone with him to Toronto after all.
The Blue Jays on Thursday night officially named Ross Atkins, who was serving as the Indians’ vice president of player personnel, as the franchise’s new general manager.
Atkins will take over for the departed Alex Anthopoulos, who denied a contract extension shortly after Shaprio officially took over as president and CEO. Shapiro reportedly scolded Anthopoulos and other members of the Blue Jays’ front office for trading away so many of the team’s top prospects to acquire the likes of David Price, Troy Tulowitzki and others during their most recent run through the postseason.
