Seems like there’s a new symbol for surrender. Instead of running a white flag up the pole, trot Josh Tomlin out of the bullpen. It’s almost like saying, “Yeah, this game’s over. It doesn’t matter that Tomlin will give up an inevitable home run and pad the other team’s lead.”
On Monday night, however, it did matter as the Tribe dropped their third straight game at home and lost a new series opener to the Reds, 7-5. With a sputtering offense all game, the Indians trailed 5-1 heading into the ninth (their lone run coming on a solo home run by Yonder Alonso in the fourth).
