There is no such thing as a must-win game in June. That’s a fact.
It’s still true for the Indians, but had they looked like a team dead in the water this weekend against the Yankees — and, more importantly, in the previous series against the Twins — the dominoes might have been set for a midseason sell-off.
At the very least, the narrative of the Indians officially giving up on 2019 would have been set in stone when or if it actually happens. This would have been the weekend we all look back on with sadness and said, “That’s when I knew it was over.
