Texas pitcher Andrew Cashner never saw Edwin Encarnacion's shattered bat as it helicoptered toward him on the mound

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It was a scary moment in the sixth inning Thursday, but it's one that Texas pitcher Andrew Cashner had witnessed before.

Cashier was struck on his right (pitching) forearm by the barrel end of Indians slugger Edwin Encarnacion's shattered bat on Encarnacion's RBI single.

"I literally saw it right before it got to the mound and I was able to cover up enough to where I didn't take it square," Cashner said.

Making his first start since coming off a stint on the 10-day disabled list, Cashner (3-7, 3.87 ERA) pitched five innings plus three batters in the sixth, allowing five earned runs while striking out three and uncorking two wild pitches.
