Ryan Lewis: Carlos Santana has made decision on club option a no-brainer

One of the intriguing questions regarding the Indians’ present and future plans as they entered this season was whether or not they should pick up Carlos Santana’s club option for 2017.

Santana, 30, is at the end of a five-year extension signed in 2012, though his deal includes a $12 million club option for the 2017 season. It’s another trademarked Chris Antonetti deal, a team-friendly extension that gives the Indians additional financial flexibility through at least one club option year. Other players with club options negotiated into their deals include Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis and Yan Gomes.
