Prepare for crowds, traffic in the Championship City this weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Calder Cup champion Cleveland Monsters will kick off their 2016-17 season this weekend – the same weekend the Cleveland Indians will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series.

As hockey and baseball fans pour downtown for the games, prepare for some traffic and likely delays.

The Monsters game will start at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Indians game will begin at 8:08 p.m. On Saturday, the Indians game will start at 4:08 p.m., and the Monsters game will begin at 5 p.m.

The Friday game will be the Monsters first since winning the Calder Cup last season, and the team is expecting to see 14,000 to 15,000 people in the stands for the banner raising and game, said Pam Frasco, vice president of marketing and communications for the Monsters.
