CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Oakland slugger Chad Pinder tried to bluff his way on base in the fifth inning Thursday when he took a dive and tried to convince umpires he had been hit by a Corey Kluber pitch.
Pinder was squaring to bunt, but went to the dirt when Kluber's first pitch of the inning came in high and tight and deflected off his bat.
After Oakland manager Bob Melvin and trainers tended to Pinder, he was awarded first base by home plate umpire Tom Hallion.
Kluber and the Indians disagreed with the ruling, and manager Terry Francona lodged a manager's challenge for a replay review.
