No doubt about it: Cleveland Indians add Francisco Mejia to 40-man roster, plus 2 lefties

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Catcher Francisco Mejia, one of the most talked-about minor-league players in baseball this year, was added to the 40-man roster by the Indians in preparation for the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 8, the last day of the winter meetings in National Harbor, Md.

After protecting Mejia, the Indians claimed lefties Edwin Escobar and Tim Cooney on waivers from Arizona and St. Louis, respectively, to reach the 40-man limit by Friday night's deadline. Catcher Chris Gimenez was outrighted to make room on the roster.

The Indians can still add or subtract from the roster should they acquire players through free agency, trades or waivers.
