Much of the Cleveland Indians' roster is under team control for a long time

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The baseball season persists for months and months and then it stops.

There's hardly any warning. It doesn't wane, little by little. It just crashes to a halt. One day, a team is playing in extra innings of Game 7 of the World Series, with 40 million people watching. The next, that team has nothing to do.

Certain parts of the Indians' front office have focused on the organization's off-season task list for a few weeks now. The general managers meetings are next week. The league's annual winter meetings take place in a month.
