CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Indians are participating in Major League Baseball's ninth Honorary Bat Girl campaign, which is now open for nominations.

The initiative encourages fans to share a story - theirs or a loved one's - to raise awareness and to find a cure for breast cancer. Breast-cancer survivors, friends, family and supporters of the cause, regardless of gender, can apply.

The annual contest was started in 2009 and identifies one fan per team who has "a personal connection to breast cancer and has demonstrated a commitment to battling the disease," MLB said in a release.
