We will remember August 13, 2024, as the day the Cleveland Guardians finally got a third starter.
Okay, this is a bit dramatic, but Matthew Boyd’s first start since June 26 of last year was a resounding success as the Guardians beat the Cubs 2-1, taking the series with a chance to sweep later tonight.
The biggest key to Boyd’s success all started with location. Boyd pounded the strike zone but didn’t leave much over the middle. He mixed up his arsenal well, much differently than he had been in 2023 and much more in line with his minor league starts.
