CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Lynchburg Hillcats caught fire during a recent eight-game homestand. The Hillcats scored 46 runs on 79 hits over the span against Myrtle Beach and Carolina.
Lynchburg went 6-2 in the homestand and clinched the high Class A Carolina League Northern Division first-half title and a spot in the playoffs, thanks to Mark Mathias and Taylor Murphy.
Second baseman Mathias, 21, was 9-for-21 with five RBI, six runs scored and a home run. The Tribe selected Mathias in the third round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
