Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Piazza elected to Hall of Fame; Griffey gets 99.3 percent of vote

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza were elected to the baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday night.

Griffey's first-ballot election was a sure thing. It was just a question of whether he would get 100 percent of the vote by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He almost made it, being named on a record 99.3 percent of the ballots.

In other words, 437 of the 440 writers who cast ballots voted for him. Griffey passed Tom Seaver, who received 98.8 percent of the vote in 1992, for the highest percentage ever.
