The Indians have said this spring that they want to look for opportunities to get Jose Ramirez into games, instead of just waiting for one.
It is a fool’s errand to think spring training statistics will directly translate to success in April when the games matter and the team returns to play in the colder climate of Cleveland. But with less than two weeks to go until Opening Day, Ramirez is making his case.
Entering Wednesday’s game, Ramirez was hitting .390 in 41 Cactus League at-bats. He’s also clubbed four home runs and four doubles, driven in 11 runs and stolen two bases.
