Joba Chamberlain becomes free agent; Cleveland Indians' prospects shine at Futures Game

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Joba Chamberlain, the veteran reliever who made the Indians' staff out of spring training, Sunday night declined an outright to Class AAA Columbus and became a free agent.

Chamberlain and left-hander Tom Gorzelanny, another veteran reliever, were designated for assignment on July 4 when the Indians recalled right-hander Mike Clevinger and left-hander TJ House from Class AAA Columbus. On Saturday, Gorzelanny declined his outright and became a free agent.

The Indians ran out of fresh arms at the end of their last trip during a four-game series in Toronto. They played 19 innings against Toronto on July 1 and had to scramble the next two games to find enough pitching.
