'It's a tragic day': Cleveland Indians offer reaction to death of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Coco Crisp turned to Jose Ramirez and asked if he had heard the news.

Ramirez had not. Crisp relayed the information that had a contingent of Indians players watching the news in the clubhouse on Sunday morning: Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, 24, died in a boating accident. The Marlins canceled their game Sunday against the Braves.

Ramirez, unsurprisingly, appeared shocked.

"It's a tragic day," said Tribe second baseman Jason Kipnis. "It's awful news. He was one of the better guys in the entire league, not only as a pitcher. I didn't really know him off the field, but I always heard good things about him.
