CLEVELAND -- The Indians are expected to place newly acquired third baseman Josh Donaldson on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a left calf strain, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Monday morning. The move would allow Donaldson to begin a rehab assignment on Monday afternoon with Triple-A Columbus, where Donaldson is scheduled to play third and bat second. The club has not determined a return date for Donaldson.
The three-time All-Star was acquired from the Blue Jays on Friday, along with cash, ahead of baseball's deadline to acquire players in time to be eligible to join a postseason roster.
