Aviles has been put on the family medical emergency list, where he can remain for up to 7 days. No word yet on what the emergency is.
The Cleveland Indians have placed shortstop Mike Aviles on the family medical emergency list, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. While the Indians have not disclosed what emergency constituted such a move, Aviles is eligible to remain on the list for 3-7 days. Replacing him on the roster will be utility infielder Zach Walters.
Aviles, who has shown flashes of good defense in the past, has struggled so far in 2015 in the field, but performed well at the plate.
